BAK, basis voor actuele kunst serves as an advocate for contemporary art. It is a venue for contemporary art production, an open platform for creating, presenting and analysing significant art projects.

BAK initiates cooperative projects with artists and other professionals to explore the possibilities and potential of the contemporary arts. It stimulates experimentation, the study of contemporary culture, art education and the search for new audiences in order to make the art of our own time, and its developments towards tomorrow, accessible.

Casco was founded as a platform for experimental art. It has developed a critical programme that explores art in the public realm. In 2005 Casco took the new title of 'office for art, design and theory' in order to set a wider agenda towards an interdisciplinary practice.

Casco maintains a questioning approach to culture, which is also applied to its own position in the cultural field. Besides pursuing different modes of artistic production, Casco seeks to open its own infrastructure up to experimentation.

As the oldest municipal museum of the Netherlands, the Centraal Museum demonstrates for centuries that Utrecht has been a breeding ground for artistic and cultural talent.

The Centraal Museum possesses the world's largest collection of Rietveld designs and has a permanent exhibition of work by Dick Bruna. Another collection definitely worth seeing is the old masters collection. Among the highlights are works by Saenredam, Van Scorel and the Utrecht Caravaggists, including Ter Brugghen and Van Honthorst. Besides works by these iconic figures from Utrecht, the Centraal Museum provides a historical overview of the past 2000 turbulent years, as well as focusing on contemporary collections of fashion, design and fine arts.

Fotodok is an international initiative for documentary photography from Utrecht. It organizes exhibitions with (inter)national documentary photographers and organizes lectures and critical debates. Fotodok also develops educational programs with a focus on visual literacy.

Key priorities are to provide a platform for young talent; bringing international documentary photography to the Netherlands and building bridges between (inter)national developments and networks. Fotodok is a nomadic and dynamic organization that works with many parties to realize her program, in Utrecht and beyond.

The Impakt Foundation focuses on presenting and stimulating innovative audiovisual arts in an interdisciplinary context. To this end Impakt organises the annual Impakt Festival and year-round Impakt Events; short projects centering a certain theme, movement, or artist.

It also launches annual net.art projects on its webgallery Impakt Online (www.impaktonline.nl). Beside this, Impakt runs the production house and residency programme Impakt Works. Raising Impakt is the educational programme for schoolkids and students.

Metropolis M likes to position its discourse halfway between the powerful German and Anglo-American critical traditons and the philosophical leanings in the south - of Belgium and France.

At the crossroads of artistic, cultural, and critical discourse Metropolis M can present beautiful panoramas which at times are insightful, clearing things up, and at other times, just a happy jumble.

Utrecht Manifest is a biennial cultural event in and around the city of Utrecht that is multidisciplinary in character. At the heart of the biennale stand the disciplines of design and architecture, which play a guiding role in the event’s programming.

The Utrecht Biennial Foundation seeks to establish associations with other cultural domains in its programme of activities: the performing arts, literature and also socio-political debate.
